The owners of this small Bloomsbury apartment wanted a warm, inviting home for when they are in town.
Items they wished to keep were the curtains, the bed and their Chinese prints of the four seasons. The brief was to provide additional sleeping space, plenty of storage and somewhere to eat. This lower ground floor apartment was dark despite the large windows so we installed additional lighting and, removed the dated glass brick wall and sliding door to the kitchen to make the space more airy and open plan. A whitened oak floor was installed through the hall, living room and kitchen. We added a sofa bed, a storage ottoman and a large media unit with plenty of storage. The console table opens to reveal a full sized dining table that will seat up to six. There was a limited budget for the project so we retained the original kitchen however, the addition of grey mosaic tiles and colourful accessories updates and breathes new life into the room. The existing bathroom was tired but in order to keep within budget we retiled the walls, steam cleaned the terrazzo floor and replaced the shower curtain with a clear glass screen. In the bedroom, we replaced the existing wardrobe doors with light reflecting mirrored doors; adding silvery wallpaper helps add life and bounces more precious light around the space.
